Garnishes and Garland: Dried Orange Slices

I love Christmas, and I love decorating for Christmas using dried orange slices! The orange color up against the green just makes me swoon. I’ll be honest, though - I love decorating with these no matter what time of year it is. They add such a fun, subtle pop of color to any room! You can put them in a bowl as a center piece, or use them as a garnish for cheeseboards or other dishes to make them more festive.

I usually bake these the day before I want to use them so they have more time to dry out, but it’s not necessary to do it ahead of time!

TOOLS NEEDED:

3 Cooling Racks

3 Sheet pans

INGREDIENTS:

6 Oranges

Any other citrus you might want!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Preheat your oven to 220F. Set the cooling racks on top of the sheet pans. Slice your oranges into thin, even slices - about 1/4 of an inch thick. Use a knife to remove any seeds, then gently pat each slice with paper towels to remove any excess juice. Place the slices on the cooling racks. Bake in the oven for 3 - 4 hours, flipping them at the 1.5 - 2 hour mark. Make sure to check them occasionally, especially the last hour or so, to make sure they aren’t getting brown! After the slices have finished baking, remove from the oven and let cool. Place the orange slices on the cooling racks and set aside until you are ready to use them.

You can use these to string as garland, or you can use hooks to hang each individual piece as ornaments on your Christmas tree or wreaths! You can also use these as garnishes and decorations for dishes, cheeseboards, etc. to make them more festive!
